Describe the promotional mix used by two selected organisation for a selected product or service.
Promotional mix is “A specific combination of promotional methods used for one product or a family of products. Elements of a promotion mix may include print or broadcast advertising, direct marketing, personal selling, point of sale displays, and/or merchandising. (BusinessDictionary, 12/5/15)These are methods organisations use to promote their products or services. Promotional mix consists of Sponsorship, Direct Marketing, Advertising, Sales promotion, branding, Public Relation and Reputation.
Sponsorship
Sponsorship is when an organisation pays a sum of money to another organisation or group for them to use their logo or product. This creates awareness for the organisation as their logo is presented for everyone to see and may catch the interest of people. This could then increase the popularity of sales as people may become aware of the product or service being displayed by another organisation. However, sponsors do not control the messaged that is communicated. An example of a sponsorship is Chevrolet with Manchester Utd Football Club.

Chevrolet is a famous car company. As you can see in the Manchester Utd Home jersey, there is the Chevrolet logo right in the centre of the kit as Manchester Utd is sponsored by Chevrolet. This jersey is worn every home game that Manchester Utd are involved in therefore the Chevrolet will be displayed to all the viewers of the game which will reach out to millions of viewers as Manchester Utd are the biggest club in the world sure increasing the awareness of Chevrolet.
Direct Selling
Direct selling is when organisations target their audience directly. This could be through methods such as posting their leaflets through letter boxes, emails or phone calls. This is a good method as it is straight forward and direct as they are going straight to the customer unlike a sponsorship where it would go through a different organisation.
Advertising
Advertising is the action of producing information that an organisation uses to promote the sale of their products or services. Adverts are the most popular form of advertisements. Adverts can be found all over the media from newspapers, billboards and television. Adverts reach out to many people providing information and awareness about a commercial product or service. An example of a company using advertisements is Puma.
